Vision Tests

Visual checks are conducted as part of an employee’s workplace medical assessment/routine health surveillance. The majority of our medicals involve vision screening.

About the Assessment

These visual checks are undertaken to identify potential vision problems that could impact on the employee’s ability to carry out their role safety and effectively. Depending on the role, these checks may include assessments for visual acuity, peripheral vision, and colour vision.

For employees working in certain roles such as forklift truck drivers, HGV drivers, workers in safety critical roles etc., good vision is an integral part of health surveillance checks.

Common Checks:

  • Visual Acuity (the sharpness of vision – distant and near)
  • Peripheral Vision (the ability to see to the side/up & down without moving the head/eyes)
  • Colour Vision (testing for colour blindness and other colour vision deficiencies)

If any abnormalities are seen or the employee’s vision falls below a set standard for that particular role, the employer will be advised, and we will recommend the employee seeks additional advice from an Optician etc. for a further comprehensive eye examination and potentially necessary corrective measures to be able to meet the standards.

For all employees attending a medical at Aardvark, if they wear corrective lenses, it is vital that these are brought along for the appointment. Contact lenses should not be worn (unless they are easily removed/inserted) as the clinician will always need to measure uncorrected and corrected vision.
